OM-1 Body and OM‑1 12‑40mm PRO II Kit

In our OM System OM-1 review, we said that, ‘If you enjoy shooting with Olympus cameras, then the refinements made with the OM-1, along with the improved image quality, features, and improved video options, makes this camera a real joy to use, with the updated menu systems another welcome change.

Without doubt, the OM System OM-1 is the best Micro Four Thirds camera currently available for stills photography. It goes beyond what you would expect from a £2000 camera in terms of subject detection AF, high-speed performance, and the sheer number of useful shooting features available.’

We found in our OM-5 review that while similar to the E-M5 III, ‘ there are a variety of updates that make the OM-5 even more compelling, including improved weather-sealing, and image stabilisation. A few other tweaks and additions make this a great camera for photographers, including built-in LiveND. For those that want to travel light without carrying a tripod, you can now use the handheld hi-res mode to capture 50MP images.’

It also lends itself to videographers and vloggers, ‘especially as the camera has an impressive, if not the best, in-body image stabilisation, and the best range of lenses available’.

M.Zuiko ED 12-45mm F4.0 PRO

We described this lens in our review as ‘a stunning small, lightweight standard zoom that ‘provides a rare combination of ruggedness, portability, and superb image quality, particularly when used in combination with the OM-D E-M5 Mark III. Its remarkable macro capability is the icing on the cake, bringing an extra layer of creativity.’

We also found that ‘for Micro Four Thirds users who’d like to upgrade their kit lens without adding much bulk, or indeed DSLR users looking to downsize their kit, the 12-45mm f/4 is definitely one to shortlist’.

In our review, we said that ‘There is no doubt that the OM System M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-200mm f/3.5-6.3 has potential and is decent value for money. However, there are compromises. Sharpness is acceptable but if you demand critical crispness for super-big enlargements, this lens might not be for you and going for a less ambitious zoom might suit you better.

In use, its very wide focal length range, impressive close focus and weather-resistant construction, does mean that this lens can tackle a wide range of subject matter. However, its modest maximum aperture makes it less well suited to low-light shooting, although it is true that the very good ISO performance of the latest MFT cameras does offset this. The limited maximum aperture also means it’s more difficult to achieve shallow depth of field effects.’
