We’ve been charmed by the Kodak Charmera, in its original and Millennium editions, had fun with the flip-screen Yashica Funtastic Keychain Camera, checked out the cute CHUZHAO Digital TLR and snapped up successive iterations of Camp Snap cameras by the dozen. Now prepare to witness teenagers raiding the piggy bank once again to secure the $38 required for ownership of another new keyring camera: the Posh Tech Mini Digital Camera. The price here not only includes the super small snapper, but a beaded lanyard too to maximise cuteness.

Part of the additional charm of this model and others is the very lack of access to the social media apps we’re always told our teens (and not just our teens) are addicted to, thus allowing photographers to set up their shots free from distraction and, in doing so, feel more ‘present’ – whether they’re Gen Z, millennials, or those of us who recall similar keychain cameras, such as Digital Dream’s L’Espion (French for ‘spy’), from the early 2000s.

Bringing matters bang up to date, the Posh Tech Mini Digital Camera debuts off the back of recent figures from industry watcher CIPA in Japan stating that shipments of fixed lens compact cameras have risen 30% year on year, while most other cameras categories, including mirrorless, but most dramatically DSLR, have experienced a fall in shipment numbers.

The Posh Tech Mini Digital Camera… useful digital tool or pocket money priced shiny trinket?

A Kodak Charmera killer?

Given the size and very affordable price, the Posh Tech Mini Digital Camera has obvious gifting potential, while it could also conceivably prove ideal for anyone wanting an unobtrusive way of recording memories on summer holidays, at music festivals, or basically anywhere where a quick snap without the distraction of multiple smartphone apps and doom-scrolling appeals.

Specification is a little thin on the ground for this dainty digicam, save for the fact it features 1080P HD video recording in AVI format alongside digital stills, tiny, non-touchscreen LCD display, supports a microSD card of a capacity up to 128GB (which will need to be bought separately), features an internal battery claimed to last 90 minutes when replenished via USB-C charging, plus overall dimensions of 1.75×1.25×0.3-inches. Scene modes and a built-in LED flash are further accessible. Oh, and via its supplied keychain clip, it can be attached to bags, belt loops and more for ‘hands free’ transportation / wear.

So, will Posh Tech’s mini marvel and beaded accessory see off other pretenders for those (by which we mean mainly pre-teen and teen girls) seeking retro, low-tech charm at a pocket money price? Only time and a possible social media frenzy will tell.
