OPPO has been a name to keep an eye on for a while, and its latest upper mid-range Reno 16 Pro is yet another compelling budget camera phone for photographers.
The Reno series sits below the flagship OPPO Find X9 Ultra, which we regard as one of the best for serious smartphone photography.

Compared to the previous Reno 15 Pro, there are some mild changes in specifications, though it inherits the same camera setup. A solid 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide and a 50MP telephoto camera offering 3.5x optical zoom round out the camera isle.
OPPO is marketing the Reno 16 Pro as the ultimate vlogging setup. Although it doesn’t support 8K, it features a very capable 4K60p video on all the cameras and a new 4K Auto straightening video feature available on both rear and front cameras that is said to stabilise handheld video. On the front, there’s a high-res 50MP selfie camera with an ultrawide 16mm equivalent focal range, which is ideal for group selfies and solo vlogging.

Other new creative tools include Pop Cam, a quick-shooting mode that incorporates fun, film-like effects such as light leaks, grain effects reminiscent of the digicam aesthetic, and an instant-film look.

The Reno 16 Pro is the first in the series to feature an AI snap key. By default, this button opens the on-board AI assistant, Mind Space, but thankfully, it can also be configured to access other applications, such as your favourite camera mode.

Battery capacity is boosted to 6700mAh, which should more than cover a whole day of taking photos and editing, while the new MediaTek Dimensity 8550 Super processor boosts the overall performance.
As for the design, there’s not much that’s changed: we get the sleek aluminium frame, cold-sculpted glass back, and a solid build that earned the highest IP68 & 69 water and dust resistance ratings.

Below the Reno 16 Pro, OPPO also launched two more budget models, the OPPO Reno 16 and OPPO Reno 16F, as well as the OPPO Bubble, a magnetic selfie display that doubles up as a customisable badge.
We’re currently putting the OPPO Reno 16 Pro through its paces, so be sure to keep an eye out for our comprehensive, hands-on review coming your way soon!
