Only a few weeks after announcing its first-ever autofocus lens with the Voyager, Thypoch has now released a new addition to its cinema lens line-up, the Thypoch Simera-C 16mm T1.9. If you are looking for the best lenses for video and want a dedicated unit, cinema lenses are the way to go. Despite being fully manual, these full-frame primes, with their high T-stop speeds, are designed for video capture with higher optical consistency.
Thypoch Simera-C 16mm T1.9 at a glance:
- Launch price: $879/£665(E mount), $959/£726 (M mount)
- Fully manual cinema lens
- Near-zero focus-breathing
- Lens mount: Sony-E, Leica-M
- 70 mm, 490g (E-mount) / 467g (M-mount)
- Thypoch.com
The Thypoch Simera-C 16mm T1.9 is now the widest available lens in the Simera-C lineup, with 21mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm T1.5 options also available. The 106° field of view is ideal for documentary work, landscapes and any scenes that require an immersive perspective. It maintains a constant T1.9 aperture and is built with 15 lens elements arranged in 11 groups with a floating element. This construction is said to ensure exceptionally low distortion and near-zero focus breathing, making focus transitions smooth and seamless. You can also create an exaggerated fish-eye perspective thanks to its 16cm minimum focusing distance.
Given its compact size at 70mm and 467g for the Leica M-mount and 490g for the Sony E-mount version, it pairs well with video-focused full frame cameras like the Sony A7RV or the Leica SL3-S. But you can also use it with APS-C format
The Thypoch Simera-C 16mm T1.9 is available now for $879/£665 (E mount), $959/£726 (M mount), while you can purchase the whole Simera-C lineup in a bundle for $4,369/£3,706 (E mount), $4,849/£3,948 (M mount).
