Getting your child their first camera is one of those moments every photographer looks forward to. Seeing the world through a kid’s eyes can be both surprising and inspiring, and dedicated kids’ compact cameras mean you don’t have to worry as much about sticky fingers. That’s what makes Kenko Tokina newly released Toy Story-themed camera so charming.

Available only in Japan with a Woody and Buzz Lightyear theme, it is designed with tiny photographers in mind. It features not just a front but also a rear camera, an LCD screen, and weighs only 110g. It comes with a neck strap and includes a protective silicone cover that should help it survive all the adventures you throw at it.

The Toy Story details are especially fun. Woody and Buzz’s voices play when the camera powers on and off, or when a photo is taken. There’s also a choice of 20 frames with various characters from Toy Story to play with.

But if your kid is anything like my nephew, there’s a good chance photography won’t be the only feature that captures their attention. With three games on board, the camera doubles as a tiny game console. The added interest of games will more likely make the little ones carry around this fun camera so it’ll be there when something worthy of taking a photo of appears.

Priced at ¥7,700 (approximately $49 / £35) this is one of the cutest kids’ cameras we’ve seen in a while, and the Toy Story touches make it hard not to smile every time Woody or Buzz chimes in after a photo. Available in Japan only, if you want to get one in time for the release of the new Toy Story 5 animated movie, you’ll have to go through Amazon Japan. To find out more about this adorable camera head to Kenko Tokina website.

Alternatively, if you’d like your child to experience photography – without the screens – then cameras like the CampSnap 2 are designed for just that.
