Artist Leonardo da Vinci faked the Turin Shroud using a camera obscura to create an image of his own face on cloth, a TV documentary will claim tonight.
The programme, to be shown on Channel Five, is said to show how computer technology has been used to reveal that the face on the Shroud is the same size as da Vinci’s.
It is claimed that the Italian, who died in 1519, hung cloth coated with ‘light sensitive’ silver sulphate over a frame and then projected an image of a sculpture of his face onto the linen.
