Officially, Black Friday is not even here yet, but the deals keep coming thick and fast – particularly if you’re happy with Micro Four Thirds rather than a full frame sensor.
A good example is the Olympus PEN EP-7, which came out in 2021. We’ve found this compact yet handsome and powerful camera on Amazon for the bargain-basement price of £599.99, down from £849. That is a saving of nearly 30% AND it includes the M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm EZ lens!
This particular deal seems limited to the US site, though there are some good savings on other Olympus and OM System-branded cameras and lenses over at Amazon US.
As well as the OM System OM-1, I have also used the Olympus PEN EP-7 quite a lot over the last few couple of years, and it’s a very likeable camera that is ideally suited to travel and street work. It looks good, with attractive retro styling, and is well designed: key controls fall easily to hand, which reduces the amount of menu hunting you get with some other makers.
The E-P7 delivers attractive images and footage from the get-go, thanks to its tried-and-tested 20.3MP Four Thirds sensor, extremely useful five-axis image stabilisation and 4K/30p video recording.
Yes, it lacks a viewfinder but this is camera that will fit into a larger jacket pocket or small bag, so it’s ideal for taking on the road. I took it out with me again and again, which wasn’t the case with more up to date but bulkier mirrorless rivals.
