Kieran Morgan is an emerging photographer specialising primarily in pet photography. Born and raised in Leicestershire, he has a passion for animals and the natural world, which he explores through the creative outlet of photography. He captures the character and beauty of pets in stunning outdoor locations across the country.

Our emerging photographer series aims to shed a light on up-and-coming talent. Photographers are offered a platform to share their work with a wider audience through the AP channels, with the scope of furthering their careers. We also get an insight into their inspirations, the camera gear used and future aspirations, as well as the journey taken into photography – which doesn’t have to be the most traditional route!

We’ll be sharing the work of photographers on our website and social media and even in the magazine. If you have recently started your photography journey or are a student / graduate, share your work with us at [email protected].

When and why did you start taking photographs?

I would say the first time I started taking photos was in 2013 when I went to Kenya with the Army. I picked up a Canon Powershot digital camera because I wanted to photograph wildlife in my spare time. Specifically bugs! I did a few trips with the Army with my digital camera but never really picked up a DSLR until around 2018.

Which genre do you tend to work mostly in?

I would say I mainly work within dog photography now but before that I was taking Macro/Wildlife photos.

What draws you towards your favoured genre?

I will answer this two parts.

Macro/Wildlife – I have always had a deep fascination for the natural world and I love insects and spiders. I blame my parents and David Attenborough for this love of nature.

Dogs – I get a massive sense of gratification when showing a photo I’m proud of to the owners of the dog and seeing their reactions.

Tell us a little bit more about your photographic training (if any)?

I have had no formal photographic training. I have never attended any classes or seminars etc. The only people I can thank for helping me learn photography are some of my friends and family. Bradley Sarson, James Longden and my brother, Dale. The rest has been countless hours in my garden with my camera.

Tell us more about your recent work?

My recent work is heavily focussed on pet/dog photography. I created Fauna Focus Pet Photography in 2025 which is a outdoor orientated pet photography business. It combines my love for photography, the outdoors and animals.

What kind of reaction has it had?

It has been good! I have had some early supporters who don’t realise how much they have helped me stay positive throughout the start of Fauna Focus. They have been great and they loved their photos I delivered.

What has been your biggest photographic obstacle to date?

My biggest obstacle has probably been affordability. I am currently using two prime lenses for all my photography. It’s tough but I’m trying to make use out of what I can afford!

Who are your biggest influences?

A big driving influence in photography for me has been the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. Anyone who gets their work displayed at the Natural History Museum is an influence for me. Dani Connor, Paul Browning and Rachel Bigsby.

When it comes to dogs – Carlos A.Miljour, Natalie Richardson and Lena Lewis. All very good photographers with amazing work.

What equipment do you use?

I use a Canon EOS R6 Mark II (with the EF Lens adapter), with the Canon EF 50mm F1.8 and Canon EF 100mm F2.8 Macro lenses.

What would be your dream equipment to work with?

I just want a 70-200mm Canon RF F2.8! The versatility for action shots and even portraits looks amazing.

What has been the highlight of your photography career so far?

I have a lot of photos I’m very proud of. I love some of my nature photos. Specifically some dragonfly ones. But I will say, sitting in my car after my first paid shoot for a dog called Bonnie (the black and brown Doberman cross) and reviewing the photos. I was so proud of what I captured from that session and it couldn’t have gone much better. Shout out to Jack and Charlie!

What are your hopes for your photography career in the future?

I would love to become an established photographer who can not necessarily do it full time but do it to a point where I can save some extra pennies to treat my family to a holiday now and again.

Do you have a dream assignment?

I wouldn’t really say this would be an assignment but my dream is to visit the Costa Rican jungles and rainforests with a macro lens and a zoom lens. If I can do that at least once, I would be a very, very happy man!

What piece of advice would you give to other aspiring photographers?

Don’t limit yourself. Branch out to other types of photography. Night photography, street photography, macro, wildlife, landscape, sports. Find something you are personally interested in and don’t put up barriers because of your equipment.
