Trends from the 90s, like vintage digital cameras, have recently come back to the mainstream in recent years, adopted by nostalgic millennials and Gen Zers alike. You can get the original cult classic Tamagotchi toys, as well as a new generation including the Tamagotchi Pix, which came out in 2021 with touch screen buttons and a built-in camera.

The Tamagotchi Pix’s camera can be used to take photos of your pet and selfies of yourself with your pet. The photos are saved in an album, where you can access them to view, edit or share on the device’s mock social media feed. It also has a new colour display as well as new games and social features, like connecting with other friends’ Tamagotchis to send them out on playdates. The Tamagotchi Pix is currently available to buy for around $60 / £50.

First released more than 25 years ago and made by children’s toy and interactive entertainment manufacturer Bandai, which has also recently revived another popular 90s pet the Sea-Monkeys, the original Tamagotchi toy offered the user the chance to take care of their very own virtual pet, feeding it and keeping it entertained, whether at home or on the go.

The company relaunched the original Tamagotchi in 2017 for its 20th anniversary and has collaborated with major franchises like Pokémon, Toy Story ($20 / £20) and Star Wars ($18 / £15), making a Tamagotchi where owners can look after their very own R2D2.
