The Sony Alpha 35 will become the latest addition to Sony?s stable of DSLRs when it hits UK stores in August.

The Sony A35 deploys a new 16.2-million-pixel APS-C size imaging sensor, similar to the Sony A55’s but ?tweaked slightly? for lower noise and high-sensitivity, according to Sony UK product manager Andreas Georghiades.
Replacing the 14MP Alpha 33, the A35 incorporates a new in-camera feature called Picture Effect, which can be applied to still and video.
Choices include Retro Photo, High Contrast Monochrome and Toy Camera, as well as Partial Colour, which allows a single colour to be picked out against the rest of the image which is in b&w.
Boasting ?enhanced performance in a compact, lightweight [415g] body? the Sony A35 is said to weigh 30% less than its A580 and A560 siblings and be 27% smaller.
However, Sony has removed the tilting screen, in a bid to bring down the price of the camera, which the firm says will be ?considerably cheaper than its predecessor.
This will make Translucent Mirror Technology ?more affordable to the masses?, added Georghiades.
Armoury includes equivalent ISO sensitivity of 100-12,800, Full HD (1,920×1,080i AVCHD) movie recording and continuous shooting up to a maximum of seven frames per second.
Meanwhile, a custom function on the top panel allows control of 14 frequently used controls.
Battery life is 30% greater than the A33?s (enough for 440 still images), claims Sony.
Current Sony A33 and A55 owners will be able to add Picture effects to their cameras via a firmware upgrade.
Sony has also recently announced the HVL-F43 AM flash, which is billed as smaller and lighter than the HVL-F42 AM flash unit it replaces.
The Sony A35 is due out to land in UK stores in mid-August, at a price yet to be announced.
