The Nikon Photo Contest 2014-2015 is an international competition, open to amateur and professional photographers.
This year’s Grand Prize winner will pocket 500,000 yen in cash (around £3,000), plus Nikon gear valued at 1m yen (almost £6,000).
‘In the last 10 years, with the wide penetration of digital cameras with video capabilities, the environment surrounding image-making has dramatically changed,’ states the contest’s website.
Organisers say they will accept entries from any digital device, and that still image files retouched using software, a photo-editing app, or a camera app, are acceptable.
However, film images – first outlawed in the 2012-2013 competition – remain banned.
Nikon has this year extended the accepted length of video entries to between 6secs and 180secs.
The winners will be announced in May 2015.
For details, and to enter, see the Nikon Photo Contest 2014-2015 website.
The competition, which pulled in almost 100,000 entries in 2012-2013, was first run in 1969.
The current title holder is Dina Bova from Israel.
