Devon-based Nigel Hicks won an honorable mention at the International Color Awards with a shot of surfers, called ‘In Search of Surf’ (above), which he entered into the Silhouettes category.
Speaking to Amateur Photographer, Nigel said he captured the image at Saunton Sands, near Barnstaple in Devon, using a Canon EOS 5D Mark II and 400mm f/5.6L lens.
Other UK-based photographers to be awarded honours at the 8th International Color Awards included Heather Buckley, Lucia Griggi, Eleonora Pecorella, Darrin Jenkins, Luke Hayes and Tony Burns.
Commenting on this year’s winners, Basil O’Brien, creative director of the US-based awards, said: ‘It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the 7,358 entries we received this year.’
He added: ‘Nigel Hicks’s ‘In Search of Surf’, an exceptional image… represents contemporary colour photography at its finest, and we’re pleased to present him with the title of Honorable Mention.’
