Canon claims its S100 digital compact is the most advanced PowerShot S-series model to date.
The PowerShot S100 features an f/2 5x optical zoom designed to deliver the 35mm viewing angle equivalent of a 24-120mm lens.
The camera (pictured below) uses Canon?s HS System which combines a ?high-sensitivity? 12.1-million-pixel CMOS sensor (maximum equivalent ISO of 6400) with a Digic 5 image processor.
Processing speed is said to be six times faster than Canon?s previous image processing engine.
Features include Intelligent IS, and a ?four-stop? optical image stabiliser.
Also on board is a 3in LCD display and a lens ring, for focus and exposure control, plus raw format shooting.
The maker claims the S100 can shoot eight full resolution images at a rate of up to 9.6 shots per second.
The Full HD capable video mode includes a Super Slow Motion Movie option that records video at 240 frames per second (QVGA resolution only).
There is also a built-in GPS unit.
The PowerShot S100 is due out in November priced £439.
Meanwhile, due out in October priced £459 is Canon?s PowerShot SX40, which boasts a lens designed to deliver the 35mm viewing angle equivalent of a 24-840mm zoom (35x power).
Armoury includes a vari-angle 2.7in LCD screen, a ?4.5-stop? image stabiliser and 12.1MP CMOS imaging sensor.
Canon claims that the SX40 will produce a full-resolution burst rate of up to 2.4 frames per second.
The SX40 (pictured below) also includes full manual control, plus a Super Slow Motion Movie mode.
It is compatible with Canon?s range of Speedlite flash units.
