Spencer Murphy has been shortlisted for his portrait of jockey Katie Walsh, while Giles Price – a former Royal Marine Commando – was chosen for one of a series of images captured at the 2013 Kumbh Mela Festival in Allahabad, India.
Also contending for the title, to be announced in November, are Iranian photographer Anoush Abrar and Dorothee Deiss from Germany.
