A groundbreaking new photography festival launched in Lincolnshire today, focusing on health, wellbeing and identity. “REMEDY” will showcase work by acclaimed photographers such as Cheryl Newman, Anthony Luvera, Rosie Barnes, JA Mortram, and Emil Peltola, alongside six emerging and established photographers at a range of free exhibitions.
To mark its opening, a £5,000 commission has been announced for a new health-themed body of work that will fund two photographers.
The exhibiting artists explore sensitive topics, ranging from underdiagnosed autism in women and girls to historical representations of sickness, gender transition, and chronic illness. The festival “focuses on health not as a medical condition but as a lived experience”; therefore, it supports socially engaged practitioners who engage with the public and create work that helps challenge conventional representations of health.

Running until 30 June, events, exhibitions and workshops take place in a range of locations in Lincoln and on the Lincolnshire coast in Skegness and Sutton-on-Sea to expand its reach, as REMEDY aims to become a national festival. Furthermore, there’s a series of talks and a digital display of all the works is organised during a festival weekend from 19 to 21 June, in the Barbican Creative Hub in Lincoln.
If you are a photographer interested in the human condition—or looking to pitch for the £5,000 commission—REMEDY promises to be an inspiring summer highlight. For the full list of events and exhibitors, visit REMEDY festival’s official website at remedyphoto.com.
