AP’s art editor chooses his favourite reader image from the past week’s uploads to our Reader Gallery.
This week, I was torn between two images.
One is a photograph that relies only on light, shade, observation and composition. It’s a pure single image called Study of light by dioneanu, so what’s not to like? The answer is, nothing – I like it very much.
The other is an image comprising more than 70 shots brought together in Photoshop. It reminds me of David Hockney’s photo collages, the paintings of LS Lowry and the prints of Robert Rauschenberg.
But is it still a photograph? Is it any less valid than a photo composition by the likes of Alexander Rodchenko or Man Ray?
Finally, the questions became too much and I chose ‘Albert Dock’ by Stephen McNally. An interesting technique, Stephen, that gives the scene a sense of time and movement.
