The 49-year-old Japanese managing director of Olympus India has been found dead in an apparent suicide, according to local press reports yet to be verified by Olympus’s corporate HQ in Tokyo.
Tsutomu Omori is reported to have been found hanging from a wall bordering a park in Sushant Lok.
The park is located in the Gurgaon district of India, an industrial and financial area that lies in Haryana, about 30km south of New Delhi, reports The Times of India and other news sources.
There is no suggestion that the reported death is linked to the Olympus scandal that last week saw the arrest of seven officials in Japan in connection with a massive accounting fraud.
Olympus established Olympus Medical Systems India in April 2010 in anticipation of growth in the Indian market, according to the Olympus website.
An Olympus Tokyo spokesperson could not be reached for comment at the time of writing.
