Following his best-selling book “New York Street Diaries”, a new collection from Phil Penman shows off many more of the world’s biggest and best cities – all of which are havens for street photography.
Here we see the bright lights of New York City as well as the charming alleyways of Paris and the vibrant streets of Tokyo. Other big cities such as Rome and Naples also appear.
Although Penman himself is based in New York, a book like this reveals that you don’t necessarily need to be an insider to have a great eye for a street photograph, inspiring any of us who might fancy a trip away to practice our street photography skills.

Penman is known for leading workshops with the lauded brand Leica, and all of the photographs in this book have a classic style which would fit in well with film photography, giving a timeless look and feel to each of this big metropolises.
An eye for turning the ordinary into the extraordinary is a key skill for any street photographer, and there’s plenty of that on display here. Stripping away all the colour also allows the moments and interactions between people to shine to their fullest too.
