Sony Japan has today recalled thousands of Cyber-Shot DSC-T5 digital compact cameras owing to a faulty metal plate that may warp, peel away and ?cut or scratch? the skin of users.

At this stage it is unclear whether some of the faulty units have entered the European market.

The serial numbers affected run from 3010001-3081200, according to a statement released by Sony?s Japanese office.

However, reports suggest that as many as 416,000 of the cameras are being recalled worldwide.

At the time of writing we were awaiting comment from Sony?s UK office.

The camera was launched onto the market in September 2005.

Sony says it offers a free replacement of the bottom casing.
