According to military.com, the US military used social media to identify the exact location of the suspected ISIS HQ building and carry out an airstrike, blowing the target apart using three missiles. Apparently prompted by the hapless selfie, the attack was carried out by the 361st Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group, according to Air Force General ‘Hawk’ Carlisle, head of Air Combat Command.
Carlisle is quoted as saying: ‘The guys that were working down out of [Hurlburt Field air force base in Florida], they’re combing through social media and they see some moron standing at this command. And in some social media, open forum, bragging about the command and control capabilities for Daesh, [ISIS]. So these guys go: “We got an in”. They do some work, long story short, about 22 hours later through that very building, three [Joint Direct Attack Munitions] take that entire building out.’
