Red Bull on hunt for ‘jaw-dropping’ action photography

Sony photography gear worth more than €60,000 is among prizes up for grabs in the Red Bull Illume contest which – for the first time – will include a Mobile category when it opens for entries on 1 December.

The 11 categories also include Close Up, Energy and Lifestyle.

Organisers said: ‘The unique approach of Red Bull Illume means the competition not only showcases jaw-dropping images, but also looks at the lifestyle behind the people that shoot them – the photographers who often go to extreme lengths for the perfect shot.’

First held in 2007, the Red Bull Illume competition is expected to pull in thousands of entries.

A Sony Alpha 7R II and Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R II are among prizes on offer in the contest, which closes for entries on 31 March 2016.

A panel of 50 photo editors from international publications will choose 55 finalists, which will be announced at the Red Bull Illume Winner Award Ceremony in the autumn of 2016 before forming part of a touring exhibition.
