An image of the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain has scooped top prize in a photography competition co-judged by Mike McCartney, the brother of music legend, Sir Paul McCartney.
The man behind the winning picture was John Lane from London who said: ?I spend a lot of time in Hyde Park, mostly walking with my camera. I took this photo in July? what inspired me was the light on the water.?
The contest was called Postcards from the Park. The top prize was a one-to-one workshop with Mike McCartney, a professional photographer who helped select the winning shot.
The competition was co-judged by Amateur Photographer Editor Damien Demolder.
Mike said afterwards: ?This competition has really proved how popular parks are. I have been so impressed by the standard of entries and John?s photo captures the very essence of why so many people love their local park.?
The project aimed to encourage people to record on camera ‘what they appreciate most about their local park’.
There were 24 regional winners in two age categories.
The awards were announced at Mile End Park in east London by actress Joanna Lumley who said: ?Parks are among the UK?s most treasured features and the Postcards from the Park competition was a great way of celebrating that fact.?
The best shots from the contest ? which was organised by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund – will be turned into postcards.
