The Lumix DMC-FZ1000 includes a 4k video function – a first for a bridge camera – plus a 20.1-million-pixel, 1in-size imaging sensor.
However, it is also designed to allow the user to extract an 8-million-pixel still image from the movie footage.
‘This makes sure you don’t miss those decisive moments with either photos or video or both,’
says Panasonic.
Other features include a 25-400mm (35mm equivalent) f/2.8 Leica DC Vario-Elmarit zoom lens and a top ISO of 25,600.
The fast lens and 1in sensor allow the user to create a ‘beautiful bokeh’, claims Panasonic.
Also on board is a 2.35-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder and a 921,000-dot, 3in, free-angle LCD screen.
Designed as a ‘high-end’ bridge camera, the FZ1000 employs contrast autofocus with Depth from Defocus (DFD) technology (also featured in the Lumix DMC-GH4), which, combined with the linear motor system, aims to cut AF speed to 0.09secs (in wide mode).
The FZ1000 includes a 49-area AF system, plus eye detection AF, and a top electronic shutter speed of 1/16000sec.
The in-camera raw processing and 22 filter effects – including monochrome – should also appeal
to enthusiasts.
The built-in Wi-Fi and NFC will allow the wireless transfer of images and remote control via a smartphone or computer tablet, for example.
Panasonic says over half of bridge camera users are aged 45-64.
