The AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is billed as the world’s first interchangeable lens to offer a 16.7x zoom on DX-format DSLRs.
It is designed to produce the 35mm viewing angle equivalent of a 27-450mm optic. Features include vibration reduction (VR II).
Also boasting VR II is the new AF-S Nikkor 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR which is touted as a compact, lightweight lens suitable for a variety of shooting situations.
The news comes on the day Nikon confirms that it produced its seventy millionth Nikkor lens at the end of May.
The Nikkor brand dates back to 1933, when it lent its name to a large-format lens for aerial photography.
UK pricing and availability of the new lenses were yet to be announced at the time of writing.
NEWS UPDATE: Nikon UK has since confirmed that the 18-300mm will cost £849.99, while the 24-85mm will carry a £519.99 pricetag. Both lenses are due to go on sale in the UK on 28 June.
