The ‘Nikon 100th Anniversary’ category has been added to the Nikon Photo Contest 2016-2017, alongside a new category for people aged under 30 called ‘Next Generation’.
The Nikon Photo Contest will be open for entries from 17 October 2016-27 January 2017, offering a top prize of 500,000 yen (over £3,700) and a Nikon D5 DSLR camera kit.
The Nikon 100th Anniversary category, which limits entries to images taken using Nikon gear, adopts the theme ‘Celebration’.
The Open and Next Generation categories carry the theme ‘Future’ and invites photos captured using any make of equipment.
The Nikon Photo Contest 2016-2017 will also accept video, captured from devices including smartphones.
Video entries should be no more than three minutes long.
Nikon has appointed graphic designer and art director Neville Brody as the head judge. Nikon said it appointed Brody owing to his influence on artists, including photographers.
Brody said: ‘The Nikon Photo Contest is recognised globally as a key place to discover new and rising talent, searching out rich, imaginative power and inspiration.
‘As lead judge, I feel it is my responsibility to continue this great tradition by selecting works that represent new ideas and superior quality.
‘I am excited to see just how participants express their wonderful ideas and creativity through the works they submit.’
The overall winner will be announced in July 2017.
