MPs and Lords entered a record number of pictures into this year’s All-Party Parliamentary photo competition, a sign that photography remains a burning passion among politicians.
More than 600 images were entered into the annual Jessops-sponsored contest, which invited politicians to submit up to 10 images from their political or personal lives.
Those lining up for the House of Commons included Conservative MP Tim Loughton, along with Labour members John Austin and Hugh Bayley.
Also in the running were transport secretary Geoff Hoon and tireless photo rights campaigner Austin Mitchell, Labour MP for Great Grimsby.
Peers were represented by, among others, former Chancellor of the Exchequer Lord Healey and former NATO secretary general Lord Robertson.
New to the competition this year was a category in which politicians were asked to define their constituency or areas of origin.
Eight ‘Judges’ Choice’ images – to be announced on Monday – will win a £100 bursary to be donated to the charity Barnardo’s.
The best images will go on show in The Houses of Parliament from next week.
