Sony has updated its entry-level full-frame kit zoom, with the Sony FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS II gaining the ability to track focus while shooting still images or video at 120 frames per second. It also now supports the focus breathing compensation function found on recent Sony cameras, that suppresses any change in angle of view while changing the focus during video recording. It’s fractionally lighter than its processor, too, at 293g.
Elsewhere, though, everything remains the same. Optically it employs 9 elements in 8 groups, including three aspherical elements and one made of ED glass to maximise sharpness. Meanwhile, the aperture diaphragm has 7 curved blades. The minimum focus distance ranges from 30-45cm though the zoom range, delivering 0.19x maximum magnification.
Physically the lens measures 72.5mm in diameter by 83mm in length, with a dust and moisture resistant design. It accepts 55mm filters and optical stabilisation is built in, too.
The Sony FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS II will be available in February 2026 for approximately $449 / £429.
