Leica has today said it has no plans to launch a new camera system based on a Panasonic Micro Four Thirds model.
Asked whether Leica plans to launch a more compact system camera than its full-frame M9, a spokeswoman said there was no such system on the horizon.
There has been speculation on the internet that Leica will launch a camera along the lines of a Panasonic Micro Four Thirds model which carries a smaller imaging sensor.
?We have no information on anything like that at the moment,? she told Amateur Photographer.
The statement comes a day after Leica?s PR people were forced to fend off claims that the German firm was about to launch a mirrorless camera, following an article published by a Spanish photo magazine.
What the magazine’s report failed to acknowledge is that Leica has been making mirrorless cameras for more than half a century.
A UK spokesman said yesterday: ‘With the Leica M9 we have the most compact, full-format, mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses on the market.?
