Improve your Social Snapping with these tips from Jessops.
If you’ve just started a blog or are looking for ways to improve your site, fantastic photography can really help you to stand out in the blogosphere. Just follow these simple tips for social photo success.
1) Try a flat lay
It’s the bloggers go-to composition for perfect framing to show off products. Consider the season and choose an appropriate background, from wooden floors, fabric, wrapping paper and magazine pages – in fact, anything that will give character to your pictures and add interest. For lots of items, you’ll want a simple backdrop so as not to take all the focus from your products. Use a ruler to get neat edges, and then shoot from a bird’s-eye view.
2) Keep it natural
If you’re unsure how to make your shots look their best, remember that natural lighting is your best friend. Whether you’re shooting portraits or products, get your subject next to a window – or outside – and let the frame fill with light. You can use a reflector to direct light into areas you need to add an extra pop of brightness to. If you want to try the technique before splashing out on a reflector, use a large piece of white paper, holding it below the light and angling it so the light bounces onto your subject.
3) Selfie smarts
Out and about on a city break, you need a camera that’ll keep up with you. Bloggers and pros alike love a camera with a flip LCD screen for the flexibility it allows when shooting. The Canon N2 is perfect for shooting selfies, and makes sharing straight to an array of devices easy.
