Photographer Giles Duley lost both legs and his left arm after stepping on an improvised explosive device while embedded with US soldiers from the 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry Regiment in Afghanistan in 2011.
‘Giles returns to Afghanistan to discover that treatment for Afghan amputees – a significant number of whom are children – is tragically lacking,’ says Channel 4 on its website.
‘He is deeply troubled by the lack of sufficient medical care provided for civilians by coalition forces.’
Before the explosion, the London-born photographer had spent 10 years as an editorial photographer in the fashion and music industries, later focusing on humanitarian projects.
Giles’ work has been published in magazines such as Vogue, Rolling Stone, and the Sunday Times.
Walking Wounded: Return to the Frontline is due to be broadcast on Channel 4 on 21 February, at 10pm.
