GoPro known for literally creating, inventing, and dominating the action camera market, are back and have just announced their new Mission 1 Series of cameras. Claiming to be the world’s smallest, lightest and most rugged 8K and 4K open gate cinema cameras. This new series features three models, Mission 1, Mission 1 Pro and Mission 1 Pro ILS – with the Pro ILS model offering a Micro Four Thirds lens mount.

Designed for filmmakers and creators alike, GoPro’s new range boasts a new 50MP 1-inch sensor and a brand new GP3 processor. Alongside the new sensor and processor, GoPro’s new cameras are designed to offer impressive low-light performance and dynamic range which can produce intricate detail even in dark environments.

Both the Mission 1 Pro and Mission 1 Pro ILS give you the ability to shoot 8K 16:9 video at up to 60 frames per second and smooth 4K 16:9 at up to 240 frames per second. The announcement from GoPro says these cameras are due to be available for pre-order from 21st May for the 1 and 1 PRO, with the 1 PRO ILD (MFT) due at the beginning of Q3 2026 – but pricing information is not yet available.

In terms of open gate video specifications, both Mission 1 Pro and Mission 1 Pro ILS support 8K30 and 4K120 while the Mission 1 supports 4K120 video capture. GoPro say that due to the new line of cameras’ impressive GP3 processor, long lasting battery life is secured with the Enduro 2 Battery. All three Mission 1 cameras offer 5+ hours of playback at 1080p30 and 3+ hours at 4K30 on just a single charge alone.

An array of 13 capture modes are included with each camera, an intriguing dive mode is at your disposal, but you can also shoot video with your own custom settings if the cameras modes aren’t of your liking. GoPro say the Mission 1 series include category-leading bitrates, colour depth and control.

Another smart feature is their pro-level audio; this includes 4 microphones which help with wind noise reduction, and Bluetooth 5.3 audio lets you wirelessly connect to various compatible devices.

As touched upon at the start, these cameras offer a 50MP resolution along with RAW format capture, and continuous shooting at 60 frames per second. Both the Mission 1 and Mission Pro are waterproof up to 20 metres which is perfect for divers.
