Canon has yet to comment on media reports that it plans to start producing digital SLR lenses in Taiwan because it has no more room at its factories in Japan.
?Canon plans to install additional production lines at the existing factory for assembling DSLR camera lenses and aims to suppress production costs by installing automated equipment,? states an article in Japanese trade publication, Pen News Weekly.
The Taiwan plant ? which currently assembles lenses for film cameras ? will make lenses with ?image-blur correction? for entry-level DSLRs, according to the article.
It is understood that the expansion is necessary to keep up with growing demand worldwide.
Despite several requests for comment Canon Europe had yet to confirm the reports at the time of writing.
