Sony has announced two action cameras at CES 2015, the more interesting being the FDR-X1000VR.
The Sony FDR-X1000VR can record video in 4K Ultra-High Definition at 30fps, at a high bitrate of 100 Mbps using the XAVC S codec. It can also shoot in Full HD (1920 x 1080 px) at 120fps, and in HD (1280 x 720 px) at 240fps. The lower resolution settings use a full frame readout mode for higher quality footage, too.
The lens offers an ultrawide 170 degree angle of view, with Electronic SteadyShot image stabilisation. The camera is weatherproof, and incorporates a standard tripod thread in its base.

The second model is the HDR-AS200VR, which records in Full HD at up to 60fps.
Both cameras record to either Micro SD cards or Memory Stick Micro, and have built-in stereo microphones. They also have Wi-Fi onboard, with NFC for easy connection, and work with a new RM-LVR2 Live-View Remote, a small, waterproofed, wrist-mounted LCD monitor that offers basic recording and playback controls. The remote can control up to five cameras, ether other action cameras or the QX1 and QX30 lens-style Cameras.
The FDR-X1000VR will be available from April 2015 and the HDR-AS200VR from March 2015. Prices are yet to be confirmed.
