At CES 2015, Fujifilm unveiled its latest Fujinon XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR lens and at the stand we got the chance to take a closer look at it.
Although the sample was a pre-production model, we were told it was a very close to the final sample. It felt very solid, and taking a look at some images on the back of the camera they were impressive. When asked about the omission of image stabilisation from this lens, Luis Navarro, Fujifilm’s North Americas product technical specialist, told us that image stabilisation would reduce the overall image quality and the Fujifilm engineers didn’t want to do that.
Navarro also explained to us that the Fujifilm lens roadmap, which was released in late July, appeared to be on track, showing us some early samples of a Fujinon XF 16mm f/1.4 R fast wideangle, Fujinon XF 90mm f/2 R portrait lens and the Fujinon 140-400mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR telephoto zoom lens. Navarro said that Fujifilm was aiming to release these lenses mid-spring, mid-summer and mid-autumn respectively.
Many people were trying out the Fujifilm X-series cameras, while the Instax range of products proved popular among visitors to the stand, particularly with women and younger people, where there is a clear trend for this type of product.
