Last year, ‘Selfie’ was made word of the year by Oxford Dictionaries after research found that its usage frequency had risen 17,000% in a year.
A Selfie is officially described as ‘a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website’.
The word’s roots have been traced back to 2002, when it was used in an Australian online forum.
