Expected to go on sale in mid-April, priced £1,599.99 body only, the Pentax K-1 features a 36.4-million-pixel full-frame imaging sensor and a new 33-point SAFOX 12 AF system – 25 of which are cross-type sensors.
The K-1 dispenses with an anti-aliasing filter, to put the ‘priority on image resolution’.
Also on board is ISO sensitivity from 100-204,800, built-in GPS and Wi-Fi, and a top shutter speed of 1/8000sec.
The new SR II 5-axis AF system claims to be effective up to 5 stops.
The K-1, which uses a new PRIME IV image processor designed to be 50% faster than its predecessor, also shoots full HD video.
The 3.2in 1.037-million-dot screen is built to tilt at the desired angle horizontally and vertically in a single action, without deviating from the lens’s optical axis.
Ricoh claims that the K-1 can shoot at 4.4 frames per second at full frame, for up to 70 JPEGs and 17 raw files. It can capture APS-C-sized JPEGs at 6.5fps.
Housed in a magnesium-alloy body, the K-1 is built to be dust and weather resistant, and it can withstand temperatures down to -10°C. The camera body contains 87 seals.
The 925g model measures 136.5x110x85.5mm.
The K-1 is compatible with SD memory cards (including SDXC UHS-1).
An optional handgrip D-BG6 (£229.99) contains a further 47 weather seals.
Also unveiled are two new full-frame lenses: a 28-105mm f/3.5-5.6ED DC WR (£549.99) and a 15-30mm f.2.8ED SDM WR (£1,499.99). These are also due in April.
