The statistics – which coincide with one year since Jessops was brought back to life by entrepreneur Peter Jones – show that UK CSC sales shot up 21% in volume and 19% in value in January and February 2014, according to market research firm GfK.
The apparent CSC renaissance comes after sales crashed last year.
However, GfK warns that the demise of the old Jessops in January last year, which forced the closure of 187 stores nationwide and had an immediate impact on high-street sales, has skewed year-on-year results.
Richard Gregory, GfK account director for Consumer Electronics, told Amateur Photographer: ‘We feel this is still down to the comparison with this time last year when Jessops paused their trading, but also getting away from the time when there was significant CSC promotion activity which brought sales forward into Q4 2012.
‘So, we will need to wait until May time before we know that there are positive trends appearing.’
Meanwhile, the new Jessops is yet to release its first-year trading figures.
