Parr made the comments after judging this year’s Museum of the Year Photography Competition, and shortlisting six photos from the 1,800 entries.
The contest called on the public to submit photos of the six museums that had been shortlisted for the prize.
Parr said: ‘I was impressed with the variety of images shot for the competition, but was looking for an element of surprise in the images to go forward to the final vote.’
He added: ‘I think a moment of revelation is the key to a memorable photo, so I hope you enjoy the shortlist as much as I did selecting it.’

The shortlisted shots, which are now subject to an online public vote, are as follows:

The online vote, which gives voters the chance of winning a photography trip to Paris, France, closes on 22 June.
The winner of the competition, who will be treated to a photography weekend for two in Berlin, Germany, will be revealed on 25 June.
