The acclaimed German photographer died instantly when a policeman opened fire on the car in which she was travelling.
Associated Press journalist Kathy Gannon was wounded in the attack.
The officer, named Naqibullah, was found guilty by six judges at the Kabul District Court yesterday.
Speaking in April, the agency’s executive editor Kathleen Carroll, said: ‘Anja was a vibrant, dynamic journalist well-loved for her insightful photographs, her warm heart and joy for life. We are heartbroken at her loss.’
