The 24-70mm f/2.8 SSM II and 16-35mm f/2.8 SSM II A-mount lenses are under development and planned for release onto the market in spring 2015.
The move suggests that Sony is still committed to supporting users of A-mount system cameras.
‘Both are updates of existing lenses with faster AF and Nano AR coating,’ said AP technical editor Andy Westlake, following a Sony briefing in London earlier this week.
Sony’s Nano AR coating is designed to help cut image flare and ghosting.
Sony also recently announced a revamp of its A-mount 70-300mm telephoto lens.
The 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G SSM II is built to be suitable for sports and wildlife photos, as well as portrait and macro shooting.
Features include ‘4x faster’ AF tracking, a moisture and dust-resistant design and a Nano AR coating. It is due out in March 2015.
Photographers can also expect a firmware update for the Sony Alpha 77 II, designed to improve the camera’s AF speed – making the camera 2.5x faster in low light.
The firmware update, which also adds XACV S video codec, is due to be released by the end of this year.
Meanwhile, Sony today confirmed that the Alpha 7 II will cost £1,500, body only, when it goes on sale in the UK in January.
The Sony Alpha 7 II will also be available as a kit with a 28-70mm lens, priced £1,700.
Unveiled last week, the Sony Alpha 7 II is claimed to offer ‘outstanding image quality in a compact size and light build’.
The 24.3-million-pixel model features 5-axis image stabilisation and a 117-point focal-plane-phase-detection AF system with an improved algorithm – allowing AF to be ‘30% faster’ than in previous Sony cameras.
