Nikon has this morning extended it stable of Coolpix digital compacts with the addition of two seven-million-pixel cameras and three 6MP models. Three of the newcomers boast vibration reduction technology designed to reduce camera shake.

Billed as ?slim and elegant? the 7.1MP Coolpix S7c houses a 3in LCD screen and a lens designed to deliver the 35mm viewing angle equivalent of a 35-105mm zoom. It will cost £299.99 and its monitor has a claimed viewing angle of 170°.

The S7c features an ?electronic? VR (Vibration Reduction) system that uses in-camera image processing to help minimise camera shake.

Featuring a swivel lens design (using a 2.5in screen) is the £299.99 Coolpix S10, a 6MP model that uses Nikon?s Image Sensor Shift VR system to help reduce camera shake. It sports a 10 Nikkor zoom (38-380mm equivalent).

Also unveiled is the 6.1MP Coolpix S9 whose features include a 38-114mm equivalent zoom, 15 scene modes and Face Priority AF.

Also new ? but exclusive to Jessops ? is the 6MP Coolpix L6 – sporting a 38-116mm equivalent lens and due to cost around £169. Nikon claims the L6 has the ?world?s best battery life in the 3x zoom compact class?, with the ability to shoot up to 1,000 images using a pair of AA lithium batteries.

While, exclusive to DSG Retail Ltd stores – such as Currys.digital – is the £249 Coolpix L5 which is a 7.2MP camera that can also be powered by AA batteries.

The L5 sports a 38-190mm equivalent zoom and ?lens shift? vibration reduction technology.

All the newcomers are due out in September, except the S9 which is due to hit shelves in August.
