Casio’s soon-to-be-launched ’60-frames-per-second’ Exilim Pro EX-F1 is well placed to compete against digital SLRs for market share, according to a key UK representative at the PMA show in Las Vegas.
Casio UK’s national account controller Neil McDade told us that, while its flagship compact will not ‘go-head-to-head’ with DSLRs, he expects it to ‘compete strongly’.
As previously reported, Casio claims that the Pro EX-F1 can capture still images at a burst rate of 60 frames per second (fps) at the camera’s full resolution of 6-million-pixels; and 1,200fps for movie recording.
In an interview with AP McDade added: ‘This kind of technology is what we see as the future of compacts and we want to be at the forefront of that.’
Casio does not expect to enter the DSLR market itself. ‘There is no DSLR on the roadmap. We are an electronics manufacturer at the end of the day… We are experts in compacts,’ said McDade.
The EX-F1 is expected to go on sale in the UK in April or May but a precise launch date is yet to be confirmed.
A UK price has yet to be announced but reports suggest it will carry a US price of $999.
