Canon has sought to clarify its position on supplies of the EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR following a press article suggesting there is a shortage.
Comments attributed to a Canon employee, featured in the 1 November issue of trade magazine Pixel, suggested that Canon had temporarily halted production of the 5D Mark II and switched production to another camera.
However, when asked to respond to the claim, Canon UK told Amateur Photographer (AP) that the person quoted in the article was not, in fact, a Canon employee.
In a bid to clarify its position Canon issued a statement to AP.
In the statement Canon insists that it strives to ensure supplies meet demand for its ?iconic? camera, adding: ?We apologise if some customers experience a delay or have difficulty in securing their purchase.
?Canon work closely with retailers to ensure ranging throughout the UK and Ireland.?

EOS 5D Mark II
?Since its launch in September 2008, the award-winning EOS 5D Mark II continues to earn a reputation as the first-choice camera for many genres of photographers.
Replacing the EOS 5D, the ground-breaking full frame EOS 5D Mark II was the first DSLR camera in the world to be able to shoot Full HD movies.
Two years on and the video quality is still class-leading, attracting filmakers and photographers to use this revolutionary camera to develop their creative skills and produce Full HD films with a true cinematic quality.
The dual capability of full-frame stills and Full HD movies coupled with the Canon EF lens system, has allowed photographers to embrace the latest evolution of photography – convergence. The EOS 5D Mark II is currently featured in two of Canon’s current cashback promotions.
EF Lens savings: When purchasing an EOS 5D Mark II photographers can take advantage of savings on a range of Canon EF lenses. Student cashback: Due to its popularity, the £150 student cashback on the purchase of the EOS 5D Mark II has been extended until 12th January 2010.
The iconic status of the EOS 5D Mark II continues to drive demand for this camera and Canon strives to meet this demand. We apologise if some customers experience a delay or have difficulty in securing their purchase. Canon work closely with retailers to ensure ranging throughout the UK and Ireland.?
