Scoopshot allows the public to contribute to breaking news stories from places press photographers are simply not able to reach, or to add different angles to coverage.
The Evening Standard says it ran such pictures over four pages, for coverage of the Tour de France as it passed through London on Monday.
An Evening Standard spokesperson said: ‘The free photography app allows members of the public to easily send pictures on their smartphones to media, enabling newspapers to upload and report on them quicker than they can using traditional systems.’
The Standard says it pays for pictures used on its website, or in print.
The Evening Standard‘s digital operations editor Neil Hunter added: ‘The speed between the picture being taken and published online is hugely exciting. It can be just a few minutes.’
