The ultra high-resolution 28-million-pixel Back Side Illuminated APS-C-sized sensor is ported directly from the previous NX1, which was announced at Photokina back in September.
The NX500 is equipped with a DRIMeV processor, which bestows it with the speed of the NX1. It’s able to continuously shoot at up to 9fps, and features Samsung Auto Shot which uses motion detection to predict the moment to take a shot in difficult action scenarios.
The camera has an ISO range of 100-25,600, a maximum shutter speed of 1/6000sec and is capable of shooting JPEG and Raw files.
Described as ‘palm-sized’, the NX500 features dimensions of 119.5 x 63.6 x 42.5mm and weighs 287g without battery or card. Its 3-inch Super AMOLED Touch screen comes with Tilt and Flip-up functions for the ‘perfect selfie’.
Like the NX1 the NX500 supports 4K and UHD video recording, as well as Samsung’s built-in HEVC Codec compression technology for efficient storage of video clips.
It also features Wi-fi, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity, allowing images and video to be easily shared to mobile devices, and Samsung boast of an ‘outstanding data transfer speed’ that will swiftly send even the large image files produced by the sensor.
The Samsung NX500 will be available globally from March 2015. Price is yet to be confirmed.
