In a three-part retrospective, Reuters published a series of historic news photos from its vast archive, alongside comments from the photographers who took them and the kit they used.

Speaking today, Reuters Global Pictures Editor Reinhard Krause told Amateur Photographer: ‘Our package celebrating the 30th anniversary of Reuters Pictures was a great success and created considerable interest.

‘We have had a very positive reaction…’

Announcing the 30-year milestone last week, Reuters said: ‘Reuters photographers have captured dramatic images illustrating the human tragedy of natural disaster and war as well as the fallout of economic events across the continents.

‘They have brought their lenses to bear on sport, culture and show business as well as world political and economic leaders – creating iconic images, recognised around the world.’

Krause added today: ‘The pictures have been widely used, we have experienced a significant increase in website views and an increase in enquiries about Reuters Pictures.’

Russell Boyce, global editor for News Projects, Pictures at Reuters explains how the agency is exploring ways for photographers to tell more in-depth stories through their pictures, and how Reuters editors spot hoaxes
