Photographer Carlos Clarke’s images gifted to nation

The prints, measuring up to 24x30in, were captured between 1971-1998 and include portraits of the actress Rachel Weisz, chef Marco Pierre White and rock legend Mick Jagger.

Clare Freestone, associate curator of photographs at the National Portrait Gallery, said: ‘These photographs are both classic and era defining.

‘We are pleased to be able to add to the representation of Bob Carlos Clarke’s work in the National Portrait Gallery’s collection with this generous portfolio gift.’

The photographer’s wife Lindsey said: ‘I am delighted to donate these prints to the National Portrait Gallery as I feel it is very important that future generations enjoy these intimate portraits.’

The gallery says it plans to exhibit the prints in the ‘near future’.
