Pentax this morning extended its Optio digital compact family with the unveiling of a pair of sub-£200 models. The £199.99, 7.1-million-pixel Optio T30 and £139.99 M30 are both due out in the UK next month.

Sporting a 3in (230,000 pixel) LCD screen the Optio T30 boasts Face Recognition AF and AE and a digital Shake Reduction mode designed to automatically boost sensitivity up to ISO 3200 to help reduce camera shake.

Pentax claims the monitor has a viewing angle of around 170°.

Meanwhile, billed as a mid-range ?super slim? compact with an 18mm thick body is the Optio M30 (pictured).

Priced a penny under £140 the M30 features a 3x lens designed to deliver the 35mm viewing angle equivalent of a 38-114mm lens.

The M30?s Super-Macro mode is designed to allow close?ups down to 5cm.

? Pentax has also released an updated version of the firmware for its flagship K10D digital SLR. Firmware Update Software Version 1.10 adds features such as wireless control of external flash through the camera?s built-in flash and additions to the exposure and ISO setting controls.
