At its press conference at Photokina 2016, Panasonic has said that a successor to its flagship Lumix DMC-GH4 mirrorless camera for still and 4K video is in development, that will create ‘a new era in imaging’. It’s scheduled to be available in the first half of 2017. Key features will include 4K video recording at 60fps; 6K Photo stills shooting at 30fps, with 18-million-pixel resolution; and an 8-million-pixel 60fps burst photo mode.

The GH5 will be accompanied by a new set of premium Leica lenses; 8-18mm wideangle, 12-60mm standard, and 50-200mm telephoto. All of these lenses are currently in development.

Introducing the LUMIX GH5
Cologne, Germany, 19 September 2016 – Panasonic today announces the LUMIX GH5, the world’s first Digital Single Lens Mirrorless (DSLM) interchangeable lens camera capable of recording high-precision smooth 4K 60p/50p and faithfully reproductive 4:2:2 10-bit 4K video . The new LUMIX GH5 is scheduled to enter the market in the first half of 2017 and will feature Panasonic’s new ‘6K PHOTO’ offering – an approximately 18-megapixel-equivalent still image extraction from an ultra-high quality video with approximately 9x higher resolution than Full HD.
