Nikon has introduced the undated AF-S Nikkor 200mm f/2G ED VR II lens to replace its existing AF-S VR Nikkor 200mm f/2G IF-ED. The new version features Nikon?s second-generation Vibration Reduction system, VR II, and a new focusing mode, but uses the same optical construction as its predecessor.

The VR II system, Nikon claims, allows users to select shutter speeds of up to four stops slower than would normally be safe for handheld exposures, making working in low light conditions easier. The system features two modes that take account of normal conditions and those when the photographer is on a moving surface, such as when travelling in a car.

Adding to the usual M/A and M focusing modes is a new A/M mode, in which the camera gives priority to focusing and is able to override manual movement of the focusing ring ? or when it is being held stationary by the grip of the photographer.

Compatible with all existing Nikkor tele-converters, this 13-elements-in-nine-groups lens is also sealed against dust and weather, features a Silent Wave Motor, Nano Crystal Coatings against flare, and comes with a tripod mount, a drop-in filter holder and a ballistic nylon case.

Priced £5299.99, the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200mm f/2G VR II is due to go on sale at the beginning of October.
